Also as far as I can remember, none of spec2k6 benchmarks is really stringop bound. On Spec2k GCC was quite bound by memset (within alloc_rtx and bitmap oprations) but mostly by collecting page faults there. Inlining that one made quite a lot of difference on K8 hardware, but not on later chips. Honza
