https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/libstdc++/manual/appendix_porting.html#build_hacking.generated says how to regenerate it, but I haven't got round to documenting how to edit version.def yet. The comments at the top of the file are good, and you can copy from existing examples in the file.
