Well, that patch broke PPC 32-bit, as reported in PR 105315, so I've
committed this one.  Tested on powerpc-linux-gnu, powerpc64-linux-gnu,
powerpc64le-linux-gnu, all with glibc.  I hope that it doesn't break
musl again.
