... as discussed offline can we also add test coverage for the other modes used 
in the iterators in this patch series. The extra tests can be added as separate 
follow up patches.

Also, I'd appreciate a comment in the test for why only one of the functions is 
expected to generate a cmgt here (or remove the one that's irrelevant here)
