Thanks. I think the key piece of information that was missing for us was that -mno-minimal-toc was specific to small model code as much as -mminimal-toc. Without that info, the prevailing expectation was that, if -mminimal-toc conflicted with -mcmodel=*, then reversing its effects with -mno-minimal-toc should make it fine, but doesn't.
