I'm not reproducing this on trunk.. or am I missing something.  

Its possible something papered over it... We can wrap the code that richi
points out the UNDEFINED in with a check for undefined..    it seems like a
potential issue..   perhaps I can wind back to an earlier version that fails,
and test the patch against it. 

seem sensible?
