Nothing changed recently in GCC 12, although what exactly happens when the bug
is triggered very likely depends on the environment, which may have changed.
In any case, this kind of bug is not reasonably fixable at this point of the
release cycle, so the only solution is probably to use GCC 11 or earlier.
