He backs up, erases, writes, frowns, writes some more, frowns even deeper. He leaves the room, comes back flipping through a textbook, looks at the blackboard, shakes his head, and leaves again. After another few minutes he bursts back into the hall with yet another textbook, and with a triumphant grin proclaims, "I was right! It *is* obvious." I'll try it again, and generate those ASM_EXPR labels only when 'optimize' is zero. And I'll look into the other alternatives for a long-term solution.
