Would there be a possibility to resurrect this thread?

Apart from the already discussed issue that gcda file names can exceed the file
name limit on Linux in complex build trees there is another issue:

The inability to modify the gcda file names makes ccache unusable for coverage
builds.
As the resulting object files embed absolute paths pointing to the build
workspace, we can't reuse ccache between builds in different build workspaces,
e.g. during parallel CI builds for pull requests.

To my understanding there is a functional patch to address the issue, what
would it take to make it part of an upcoming release?
