The trunk (for 64bit) produces:
xor eax, eax
xor edx, edx
mov BYTE PTR [rdi], 0
mov QWORD PTR [rdi+8], rax
mov WORD PTR [rdi+16], 0
mov QWORD PTR [rdi+24], rdx
Which is better but still misses out and uses two registers instead of one.
