And even more interesting is this one: void f(){} struct X{ friend inline void f(); }; Only clang rejects it while GCC, EDG and MSVC all accept it. By the way here is the testcase from the defect report: struct A { void f(); }; struct B { friend inline void A::f(); }; void A::f(){}
