I will incorporate all this and send to gcc-patches. Regarding the copyright assignment, I couldn't quite discern from this link what I need to do next... it seems like I need someone to email me the necessary form, is that correct? I will also file additional bug reports for the diagnostics-related stuff; I believe I can construct test cases that do not depend on this patch for those.
