            Bug ID: 83105
           Summary: [8 regression] error: -mfloat-abi=hard: selected
                    processor lacks an FPU
           Product: gcc
           Version: 8.0
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: target
          Assignee: unassigned at gcc dot gnu.org
          Reporter: nsz at gcc dot gnu.org
  Target Milestone: ---

if gcc is configured with

--with-float=hard --target=arm-linux-gnueabihf

but without --with-fpu or --with-arch setting then the
configuration succeeds but the built xgcc fails:

$ ./xgcc -B. -xc - </dev/null
cc1: error: -mfloat-abi=hard: selected processor lacks an FPU

during the build the selftest segfaults:
$ ./xgcc -B. -xc -nostdinc /dev/null -S -o /dev/null
-fself-test=SRC/gcc/testsuite/selftests
cc1: error: -mfloat-abi=hard: selected processor lacks an FPU
cc1: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.

previously such a configuration worked and
i think produced a compiler as if

--with-arch=armv5t --with-fpu=vfp

was used, at least the attributes in object files
created by such a compiler was
