In the case without -fextended-identifiers: /u00A8 are three different tokens, / u and 00A8 (all three different tokens). With -fextended-identifiers \u00A8\u00AA\u00AD\u00AF\u00B2\u00B5 is considered one token (an identifier) but the characters not valid for the identifier.
