Until very recently, gold was useless on Solaris.  Several bugs have now been
fixed for PR gold/12525, at least enough that (with a few workarounds) you can
bootstrap gcc with it.  But unfortunately, testsuite results are terrible.
Until PRs gold/12987, gold/12990, and gold/12991 are fixed, I'd stay away from
it.
