I think the problem was only present between the 4.4.2 release (2009-10-15) and 4.4.4 (2010-04-29). Most likely it was caused by the commit for PR 43265 (2010-03-17, in 4.4.4 (!) not in 4.4.3 - ?!?) and fixed as PR 43517 (2010-03-25). The 4.5 trunk was affected from 2010-03-09 to 2010-03-25).
