See ISO C99, 6.4.8. 0x12E+2 as whole is a pp-number and thus one token (which is not a valid number though, but that is determined in a later phase, not during lexing). If you want 0x12E + 2, you really need to put some whitespace in between E and + to make sure it is lexed as separate tokens.
