Btw, with the "optimal" options -O2 -fwhole-program -fomit-frame-pointer
-mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 GCC 4.3 and 4.4 are slower than 4.1 and 4.5
(14.3s vs. 13.8s).  The extra stack alignment drops us to 16.4s(!).
