When building C++ code with GCC 4.3, the new and improved Wconversion option
ignores the use of static_cast. According to
http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/NewWconversion, C-style casts can be used to suppress
Wconversion warnings, but static_casts don't have the same effect. This is
frustrating for one that avoids C-style casts.
