Testcase of comment #9 now gives:
$ gfortran-svn -fwhole-file -g -Wall -c pr22571.f90
pr22571.f90:13.9:

  call a(q)
         1
Error: Type mismatch in argument 'p' at (1); passed TYPE(u) to TYPE(t)
