In response to #2, sorry, but the 6.cc test-case passes with r122747 and fails
with r122748 so this regression *is* exposed by your patch; reconfirmed with a
different x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu host as well as a i686-pc-linux-gnu host. 
I'm just happy it wasn't Sebastian's significantly larger and more intrusive
patch!  I hope to diff disassembly and a simulator trace to see if I can find
something easier to handle than an execution-time timeout.  If you're not
interested in that, feel free to assign yourself any time! ;)
