I have no mips-sgi machines available and if the port maintainers are not going to help help likely we will not make progress. In any case, this is not a regression, because 4.1.0 bootstrapped but only with all the wchar_t facilites disabled: you can obtain the same behavior now passing --disable-wchar_t to configure.
