I am going to look into this soon but I don't think it is an aliasing issue as
shown by:
  #   SFT.0_6 = V_MUST_DEF <SFT.0_5>;
  buf[0] = 3;
  #   VUSE <SFT.0_6>;
  D.1523_8 = buf[0];
