Did you use an absolute path to invoke configure, as strongly recommended? FWIW I just bootstrapped 4.0.1 on Solaris 2.5.1, 2.6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 without a hitch. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=22407
