hmmm I think you are the odd one out dark.
In its defence I have actually grown to like espeak.
Espeak is robotic tinny crap but its fast and hardly ever crashes.
Unlike sapi especially the bigger engines there are no lags or
pronounciation errors, there is also language accent switching to
some degree, so you could be from island and want that accent and you
can reasonably enough.
Quality wise for a free synth its actually quite good as long as you
realise its electronic, tinny and thin.
It reminds me of the old keynote I sued to run with.
My synths were all crappy robots and to be honest the human sounding
stuff really chews up power I do have it legally with some products
but don't use it.

I'd not be in favour of espeak being the only output sean.
One of the advantages of sapi is that it's possible to improve
things with a better voice, espeak just isn't good, indeed back when
the 7-128 games self voiced with espeak I actually found the word
games dam hard to play due to difficulties telling the difference
when the voice was saying b d g or e.
At least if on weindows the thing uses sapi people will be able to
use any good sapi compliant voice they have for the games, rather
than be stuck with a bad one. also, it might be personal opinion,
but I'd rather use mike or mary than espeak anyway.
Beware the Grue!
Dark.
