Hi Will, Actually, right now the only major difference between DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 is Direct3D 11. Everything else such as DirectInput, for example, are exactly the same. Then, the newer DirectX libraries like XAudio2 have been included with the DirectX 9.0C SDK to maintain compatibility with older operating systems like XP as well as support newer operating systems like Windows 7. So in other words DirectX 11 is no big deal. It isn't what you think it is.
