I mean magic weapons such as a crude copper shortsword of inteligence, which
actually have magic boosts to your in on them, ---- ditto with armour.
As I said, it's only necessary to equip them, not to actually attack
anything with them, thus you can have a caster holding two crude weapons
with int boosts and always using spells never fighting with them, ---- just
having the weapons equippped in your characters' hands is enough to get the
stat boosts.

Strength and inteligence increase as you level anyway, but you can also
have your character wear armour with the appropriate boosts, or equip
weapons.
One interesting thing to note is you only have to equip the weapons, not
use them, so it's absolutely fine to have a spell caster running around
with two pretty terrible quality weapons which increase his/her int and
thus make more effective magic, but never actually attacking with them.
