Hi. When you first get in there, it's a good idea to read help getting-started, follow the directions in that, then read help activities. If you don't want to read the help files on the game, you can read them on the web at: http://toastsoft.net:1111/help
As for how you ended up in a ship, it's generally a bad idea to log off or go AFK on landing pads or out in the open. People who arent' so nice can strand you in places where you'll have no escape without the assistance of another player. Someone saw your character ssleeping and put you in a ship to keep you safe from harm.
