Hi Jim,
As for your games I have not gotten them in to the Kitchen Inc folder
yet, and will be making an installer for myself which puts them there.
However, as for reading and writing to folders under Vista keep in mind
Vista is only beginning to emulate other operating systems like Linux
which are a more secure operating environment which is a huge shock for
older Windows only users who are not use to this level of security.
For example, in Ubuntu Linux before you can install anything to the
server you must run the su program, super user, and type in your admin
password before Linux will allow you to install it to the os. You can't
change global settings, or accerss system fils without giving a super
user password.
Guess what? Windows Vista has become the same way. It is all about admin
rights and who has them and who doesn't. If you try to delete a system
file it will prompt you for a username and password and if it does not
have admin rights it refuses to take that action. If the os feels the
action will damage the os it refuses to carry out the action. It is
really for the better as far as securing from viruses, worms, etc...
As for why your files are not unpacking I have no idea, but my guess is
and was that somehow the packer is not teling the os to prompt me me for
security admin rights. It simply tries to do the write operation and
Vista comes back with no permission to access the folder.
I'm going to attempt to extract them to my local home directory, another
Linuxism, and run them from their until I create a Vista compatible
installer.
One question when I make the installer for myself do I have permission
to uploade the modified versions to my web site so those who do make the
switch can get your games?
Thanks.
