Charles, it might be worth a quick Google to see whether there's any free software for Windows that can simulate an imbedded numpad on your laptop. The idea sprang to mind because I use the numpad a lot over on the Mac side, and Apple stopped imbedding them a few years back, but there are a few solid options to get that functionality even on machines that weren't intended to have it in the first place.
