Hi Charles, That's a serious bummer. I'm afraid firefox was the one and only solution I could come up with to resolve your problem short of just upgrading the entire system to Windows 7 or later. I don't know anything about your situation, but if you need Internet Explorer 9 you'd have to upgrade to Windows 7 which you may or may not be able to do depending on your hardware specs, and if you were going to go that far you'd be further ahead to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and getting Internet Explorer 10 which is the current browser.
