Yes, that is true. If you are not good at planning things and figuring 
out strategies STFC and Trek 2000 aren't the games for you. They are 
complex in that you have to think carefully about every move and plan 
ahead and try and think about what the enemy will do next.
One of the reasons I had to write STFC is I got so good at Trek 2000 I 
almost always won on the highest difficulty level, and when I did I had 
usually three ships left to take on more enemies.
In STFC even though I know in general terms the kinds of tactics and 
strategies the enemies will try I have been surprised on many many cases 
where they didn't do the expected action.
For example one time I got the bright idea of sending everything I had 
in to Klingon space. Blew the Klingon's to kingdom come. As I was 
retreating three Romulans hit me from the rear and I lost two ships 
before I could slow the Romulans down plus lost one in the fight with 
the Klingons.
