I have NG with a smtp resource rule to hide the mail server banner and
restrict relaying with the sender field. All was working for weeks. I
registered the product and put the license into the secureupdate component.
Within hours the cpu went to 100% unless I replaced the resource with the
smtp service. I have enlarged the connections to 50000 and the doubled
kernel memory allocation. I have telnet connection to port 25 from the fw
to the mail server. Setup is nt4SP6a NT HF2 with buffer overflow and gui
patches. Can anybody help me find what I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

FireWall-1 doesn't use dns to deliver mail. (maybe NG, but certainly not
4.1) Why don't you try telnet yourmailserver 25 from the firewall to see
whether you actually have connectivity to the mail server?

also look at what the fw1 log says.
