Maybe:
You receive negative values because the variable holding the value is
overflowing hence causing the output to seem to be negative...
...you can convert to bits, play around with two's complement and the sort
and come up with the positive value - but this too could just be a bogus
number (if the overflow occured repeatedly...)
Not sure though...
