FW1 runs on SuSE 6.4 / 7 too.
But you have to mess around with the /sbin/init.d/rcX.d stuff and if you
running SMP Kernel, you have to edit the fw1-scripts too.
The best is you analyze first the rpm installation with
"rpm -q --scripts -l --triggerscripts -p CPfw1-4x...rpm"
I am running a productive env fw1-41sp2 with about 13 nics and several vpn
tunnels (fw1-fw1, fw1-freeswan, fw1-sonicwall) without problems.
