thanks Frank, and also Dan , for your suggestions, but the problem is actually with xterm. I also tried with rxvt: it's worse. Withe kde x-terminal-emulator, no problem. Here are the results of different tests ==> xterm -geometry 100x40+0+70 -ls good ==> xterm -geometry 120x40+0+70 -ls garbled screen ==> rxvt -geometry 80x40+0+70 -ls good ==> rxvt -geometry 100x40+0+70 -ls garbled screen It looks like a bug, and I think I'll do a bug report, unless somebody suggests something else. best regards, -- Pierre Frenkiel
