Yea, that's what I see too. I get the impression someone cleverly taught it that when iconified, it doesn't need to try to draw anything, but neglected to tell it to notice when it is de-iconified (except in gnome-shell, it does somehow notice). I did file a bug report, and it was almost immediately re-directed as a duplicate of this: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!mydiscussions/chrome/_TNTBy20VsI Nothing in there looks very much like what I'm seeing though, and that is a android issue (at least originally) and was supposedly fixed in version 36, but this started happening in linux on version 37 :-(.
