Precisely.  I was unable to find out through debugging how the window is
being placed/resized, but if it's doing something using EWMH (which might
make sense -- xev showed a large number of PropertyNotify events, which is
generally a good precursor to that sort of thing), then FVWM will try and
honour that.

This is why twm is a pretty bad choice of WM to have used -- that doesn't
under anything EWMH-related which might be relevant.

It's hard to tell at this point -- but I am willing to put this down to a
bug in vmware-player.  But all I can do is guess anyway, as I don't have the
source.  :)
