Restoring a .tar.gz copy of the database is problematic in that:

* The CGI times out (hacked by me originally to "fix" this as the
stupid PHP pages have some convoluted logic to offer hard-coded
timeouts.)

* And even when that purportedly succeeds and there appears to be
information in the database, the front-end PHP pages don't seem to
recognise the fact that there is data.

I don't have any mail links, no.  But those two points are it -- the
second one being more interesting.  And I am told there's been schema
change either, so it should "just work".
