The second law of thermodynamics says entropy is increasing. The universe becomes more disordered. Living things maintain internal order by continuously consuming energy from their surroundings to fight against the natural trend toward entropy.
We can formulate a similar law for complex adaptive systems that "subjectivity is increasing" - except for those places of alignment that fight against the natural trend toward subjectivity. Subjectivity would then be the thermodynamic entropy of the mental world. We can formulate it like this as a "The Law of Subjective Divergence" "In any distributed complex adaptive system of path-dependent cognitive agents, total subjective variance—measured by the pairwise worldview distance d(X_i, X_j)—monotonically increases over time toward a state of maximum incommensurability, unless regular alignment is maintained through shared environmental forcing". Using the math of the other two theorems it is even possible to prove it. Even if it is just based on a model, it is interesting. -J.
