When I was a kid, I was curious about stuff. Eventually I realized that gainful employment is a consciousness lowering experience. Survive another day. Drink enough coffee and it is possible to do things you wouldn’t normally care about. Yet somehow people come to think there is more to it than self-medication. Their identity and purpose is wrapped up in a role that was imposed on them, rather than their success in enduring it.
