In Diamond Age, Neal Stephenson talks about rival groups creating nanobots that engage in combat, the dead bots falling from the sky. Because the bots are so small, the resulting effect is akin to taking the cartridge from your laser printer to a couple thousand feet in the air and shaking out the contents. Stephenson describes these encounters as "toner wars." Easy way to ruin a good suit.
