When I was in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon in the early eighties a group of academics arrived from the Netherlands to attend a presentation about the status of our projects. We were in a typical meeting room. As the meeting began the guests all took out their lighters and cigarettes and started puffing. We were surprised and not happy but we didn't say anything. Today smoking is prohibited in indoor spaces at the University of course.
I expect that smoking is more widespread in Russia than in the Netherlands today. --- Frank C.
