I forwarded to my husband this most interesting site (essay,
actually). He reminded me of a benign use of innocent crowd sourcing
that most people don't know about. At Carnegie-Mellon, they are
digitizing old manuscripts. Some of them don't lend themselves to
scanning. For those where words are ambiguous, the ambiguities are
presented as "captchas" and humans tell us what the words really are.
