Ah.... can I change the requested line a small amount? "Once I've attached the 'emergent' label to a phenomenon, I now know that I CANNOT apply scientific methodologies to the problem that treat the phenomenon as if:
A) it is a simple aggregate of the ingredients B) its final state was determined by any individual ingredient C) its final state was determined by any number of 'purely internal' or 'purely external' factors D) its final state can be adequately described purely by reference to a lower level of analysis " I wish I could give a positive answer rather than a negative one, but of course we won't have that until the task is done (under some notions of what the task is). Better that time? Eric On Sun, Oct 11, 2009 10:42 PM, Douglas Roberts <d...@parrot-farm.net> wrote: > > > >That was a "quick >whack"? > >We operate on different plateaus.
