Dear Bruce, many thanks for your email. I have noticed that the FreeSurfer I am still using is 5.3.0 and this version seems not to work with my Ubuntu 16.10 due to issues related to the current version of "Perl" (version 22). I have just downloaded the latest version of FreeSurfer (version 6) and everything seems to work fine.
