FreeIPA does not put any IP address (A/AAAA) record onto its domain name by default. (The philosophical question would be - what IP address should go there?) If you want to ping something, ping one of your FreeIPA servers. If want to test DNS, use a DNS tool like dig or so to test if names from that domain can be resolved.
