This sounds like a hardware problem. FreeDOS 1.4 uses the same kernel as FreeDOS 1.3, so this can't be a kernel regression. You said that you get the same problem with both Cutemouse and Mouse.com, so I don't suspect a problem in the Cutemouse driver. The laptop has a built-in mousepad (aka "touchpad") and you've connected a mouse as well. Can you try this *without* connecting the mouse and see what happens?
