My feeling is that this is unlikely to be a practical proposition. I use a kind of Btree/ISAM database. It's proprietary, I bought the source code from a Canadian company called SoftFocus about 40 years ago but in the decades since then I've had to modify it to make it build with more recent compilers. There might be something similar available open source but I haven't looked. I don't think that the Canadian company still exists.
