well..this was an adventure I hope not to encounter again.
First, the t command, which I was told would test integrity failed all together. so did, unlike with pk branded zip items, running p7zip on an archive in a different directory, even with the DPMI file right beside the thing. What finally worked was putting the p7zip executable file, and the cwsdpmi executable actually in the directory along side the .7z archive in question.
extracted it with the x option as I had been told would work.
messy business speaking personally, but if the thing expects a package manager, that may be the reason.
